Psalm 42
A Thirst for God
As a deer longs for running streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. My heart thirsts for the living God and yearns to draw near to him. Even in sorrow and uncertainty, I remember his presence, trust in his faithful love, and hope that I will once again praise him with joy.

About Cardome: A Place of Grace
Cardome, a name inspired by the Latin expression for “dear home,” is a beautiful and peaceful property situated along the banks of Left Hand Creek in Boulder County, Colorado. Keith Ames, Fr. Greg Ames’s father, built the property with his wife of 70 years, Rosemary, in the 1960s and has lovingly maintained it as a cherished family home. Rosemary passed away in 2023, and Keith still resides on the property. Surrounded by ancient cottonwoods and graceful weeping willows, Cardome offers large rolling lawns and beautiful flower gardens, where visiting wildlife—including bears, deer, bobcats, eagles, owls, and hawks—are wonderful companions to the chickens and pigeons raised by Fr. Greg.
Today, Living Streams 42 is open at Cardome as a place of grace: a warm, welcoming setting for quiet prayer, reflection, solitude, retreats, and workshops. From the rolling lawns and flower gardens to the friendly chickens and pigeons, guests and retreatants visiting Cardome for renewal can experience its rare, secluded privacy, deep silence, and tranquility, surrounded by wildlife and the peaceful sound of the running stream. A private Blessed Sacrament Chapel is onsite for retreats. The Hermitage Cottage is available for private rentals.

Meet Fr. Greg
A devoted Priest of the Archdiocese of Denver, Fr. Gregory K. Ames—fondly called “Fr. Greg”—has spent over three decades in faithful service across numerous parishes. Beginning his journey as a seminarian for the Diocese of Cheyenne, he returned to his family roots in Colorado to be ordained for the Denver Archdiocese, completing his theological studies at St. Thomas Seminary. His pastoral heart has beat within the communities of St. Anne in Arvada, Sacred Heart in Boulder, and St. Jude in Lakewood. He further led the faithful as Pastor of St. Peter’s in Greeley and Immaculate Heart of Mary in Northglenn, before serving as Parochial Vicar at Spirit of Christ in Arvada.
Fr. Greg’s ministry has been marked by a profound connection to the next generation. As Chaplain for Mullen High School and Holy Family High School, he mentored students for years, and since 1993, he has joyfully accompanied nearly a thousand young pilgrims to World Youth Days across the earth. His compassion extends equally to the elderly; through the tender care of his own mother and his father, he has developed a deep reverence for the sacredness of aging. Additionally, his decade of service as confessor to the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburga Abbey has enriched his life with the wisdom of the contemplative path and St. Benedict’s spirituality.
His spiritual resilience was forged through fire as a two-time survivor of pancreatic and kidney cancer in 2008 and 2015. These trials transformed his mission, leading him to labor alongside the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and Fr. Benedict Groeschel. For three years, Fr. Greg served the marginalized at St. Anthony’s Shelter in the South Bronx, later continuing this vital work for the homeless at the Fort Collins Mission and Guadalupe Shelter under Catholic Charities. Following a fruitful return to parish life in 2017, Fr. Greg entered his well-earned retirement from the Archdiocese of Denver in December 2025.
Reviews
“I invited Fr. Greg to give his very first parish mission at St. Josephs parish, because as a priest in
Residence here, the people had grown to love him. They were very excited to hear his stories of
working with the homeless at the local shelter. Fr. Greg is a holy man, who brings the message of
Jesus into absolute clarity. His stories, enthusiasm and charisma make him an excellent presenter
that can captivate an audience. My staff and I were thrilled with the attendance and the parish
will never forget this great mission.”
Fr. Steven Voss

has meaning for our every day life. Our parish was enriched by the insights and faith of Fr. Greg
as he presented our parish mission.”

“We were so fortunate to have Fr. Greg Ames as our presenter for our Parish Mission. Our lady of
the Mountains was in need of a real call to community and was looking for a mission that would
evangelize people and teach them our Catholic faith. Fr. Greg Ames did a great job and our
attendance grew every evening...it was very clear his mission was evangelizing our parish family”
Fr. Joseph Hartman
Pastor Our Lady of the Mountains, Estes Park Co.
“I have known Fr. Greg for over 35 years, as a classmate and friend. His mission on the year of
Mercy was excellent. He had a very good attendance and seemed to capture the year of mercy
through his use of Stories and life experiences. We were happy he accepted our invitation to come
to Nebraska.”
Fr. Donald Buhrman
Pastor St. Leo’s Parish, Grand Island Nebraska
“Fr. Greg was a treasure! People loved his parish mission. They enjoyed his stories and were
enriched by his life experience, especially in his work with the homeless and poor. We were
looking for a mission that the whole family could enjoy and Fr. Greg’s mission fit the bill...”
Judy Sturdevant
RE director, St. Columba Parish, Durango Colorado
“Fr. Greg did a wonderful job sharing his personal story with our parish. He had beautiful insights into
where Grace appears in our life. He opened our hearts and minds to the reality of the actual graces present on the Wyoming prairie and in the human heart. My family especially enjoyed his invitation to lay on the meadow and gaze at the stars! We all did it too...
